KENTUCKY APPLE BROWN BETTY RECIPE

KENTUCKY APPLE
BROWN BETTY ORIGINAL RECIPE


Cut light bread into medium size slices;
spread liberally with butter,
then put in a baking dish.
Cover each slice with sliced apples,
granulated sugar, some ground allspice
and a little cinnamon.

Put alternate layers till dish is full and
then cover with a plate and set in oven to cook.
When done
remove the plate and let it brown.

Serve with hard sauce.





BASIC KENTUCKY
HARD SAUCE RECIPE



1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup white sugar (confectioners')
1 tablespoon brandy
1 dash almond essence (extract)


In a medium mixing bowl,
cream together the butter and sugar.
Beat in by degrees the brandy
and a drop of almond essence.

**In older recipes Extracts were sometimes called Essence.**
